Trevor Patrick biography

Waikato-born half Trevor Patrick played two Tests for New Zealand while studying at the University of Otago.A New Zealand Schoolboy Kiwi and Junior Kiwi rep, Patrick gained his senior rugby league grounding with Taniwharau in the Waikato before heading to Dunedin in 1968.The 21-year-old became just the third Otago player to represent New Zealand since World War II (after Jimmy Haig and John Walshe) when he was selected at five-eighth for the 1969 series opener against Australia. He made way for debutant Gary Woollard after a 20-10 loss at Carlaw Park.Patrick was recalled at halfback for the first Test against Great Britain in 1970. Concussed during the second half of a 19-15 defeat, he remained with the squad but was replaced by Eric Carson for the second Test.As well as later representing Wellington, Patrick was a stalwart of the New Zealand Universities side from 1969-84 - including captaining the team on its 1984 tour of Britain and France. In 1986 he coached New Zealand Universities to the inaugural University Rugby League World Cup title in Auckland.
