Waikato born-and-bred utility back Wally Titterton represented the Kiwis in five Tests and made two overseas tours during the 1930s.
Playing senior football for Ngaruawahia at just 16 in 1930 - the year older brother George toured Australia with the Kiwis - he was in the South Auckland teams that played Sydney club Eastern Suburbs in 1931 and (with George) England in 1932.
He was playing for Taupiri when he earned a maiden call-up in 1935 at centre for New Zealand in the 1935 series opener against Australia, featuring in a 22-14 win up against the incomparable Dave Brown. But he was replaced by Taranaki's Cliff Hunt ahead of the second Test.
Moving to Auckland club Richmond in 1936, along with brother Wally, he was recalled for the 1936 series against England and played in both Tests, partnering Thomas Trevarthen opposite the decorated centre combination of Gus Risman and Stan Brogden.
Tittleton was on the wing for the first Test against Australia in 1937, a 12-8 loss, and at centre for the 16-15 victory in the second Test.
He played matches at five-eighth, centre and wing on the 1938 tour of Australia (no Tests were played), scoring four tries in eight appearances, before lining up in the centres in the Kiwis' 1939 tour opener against St Helens - one of only two matches prior to the tour being abandoned thanks to the outbreak of WWII.
Tittleton served in the war and played for Richmond and Ponsonby after returning home.
