The younger brother of 1953-60 Kiwi Bill Sorensen, and the uncle of champion 1970s and '80s New Zealand forwards Dane and Kurt Sorensen, Auckland utility back Dave Sorensen represented the Kiwis in 1971-72.
Former rugby union player Sorensen switched codes with Ōtāhuhu and was selected for the Kiwis' 1971 tour of Britain and France as a stand-off/centre. He did not play any Tests on the 'Grand Slam' tour but made nine appearances.
The following season he tour Australia with the New Zealand team and was selected at five-eighth in the first Test, a 36-11 loss at the SCG. He was ruled out of the second Test with a bruised chest and head cut.
Further international selection eluded Sorensen, but he enjoyed many highlights for Auckland during stints with Mt Wellington and Glenora - none more memorable than playing five-eighth as the Bill Sorensen-coached Auckland side swept World Cup teams Australia, Great Britain and France.
