Dave Solomon biography

Born: May 31, 1913 - Levuka, Fiji
Died: August 15, 1997 - Auckland
Test record: 0 Tests
Tours: 1939 tour of Britain and France

Former All Black Dave Solomon became a dual international in his first season in rugby league, embarking on the Kiwis' tour of Britain in 1939 that was cut short when WWII broke out.

Born in Fiji, the Mount Albert Grammar product played rugby union for Ponsonby and Auckland, and toured the British Isles and Canada with the 1935-36 All Blacks. The fullback/five-eighth played eight matches (no Tests).

Solomon switched codes in 1939 with Richmond Rovers and was chosen in the Kiwis' touring squad later that year. He played in two of their three matches at stand-off - the tour-opening win over St Helens and a tryscoring outing in the clash with Dewsbury - before the rest of the schedule was called off due to the war.

He played a further two seasons for Richmond before being reinstated to rugby union.
