Quick back-rower Ray Sinel played 10 Tests for the Kiwis during the 1960s.

The Ellerslie and Eastern United tyro enjoyed a breakout season in 1963, winning the Rothville Trophy as Auckland's player of the year and touring Australia with the Kiwis.

Among seven appearances, Sinel made his Test debut at lock in the third Test loss to Australia the day after his 21st birthday. He played for New Zealand in the non-Test fixture against South Africa later that year.

Sinel featured in the second-row in the series-opening win over France in 1964 and at lock in both Tests of the drawn home series against Australia in 1965.

On the Kiwis' 1967 tour of Australia, he lined up in all three Tests - a 3-0 whitewash loss - and scored a try in the second clash at Lang Park.

Sinel represented New Zealand Māori against NSW Country in 1968, then featured at centre in New Zealand's World Cup loss to France at Carlaw Park and in the second-row in a defeat to Great Britain at the SCG.

He made one further appearance for the Kiwis, off the bench in the series-opening defeat to Australia in 1969. Later in the tour he played in Auckland's 15-14 upset of the world champions.
