Shane Dowsett biography

Long-serving Otahuhu halfback Shane Dowsett toured Britain and France with New Zealand in 1971 and played his sole Test in Australia the following season.Dowsett toured NSW with New Zealand Under-23s in 1969 and debuted for Auckland in 1970. His tour with the 1971 Kiwis was hampered by injury - playing just four matches, three of which were in France - as fellow Aucklander Ken Stirling cemented the No.7 Test jumper. But after New Zealand's 36-11 loss in the series opener on the 1972 tour of Australia, Dowsett flew over to replace an injured Stirling for the second Test in Brisbane, a 31-7 defeat.A respected leader of Fox Memorial-winning Otahuhu sides during the 1970s, Dowsett was also an Auckland regular, including against Australia in 1975 and in the 1976 AMCO Cup.
