Wellington prop Ron Westerby played one Test for New Zealand against Australia in 1949.A World War II veteran, boxing and wrestling champion, and rugby union convert, Westerby was drafted into the Kiwis line-up soon after switching to rugby league.The 28-year-old was named in a revamped forward pack for the second encounter with Australia at Carlaw Park, which the tourists won 13-10 to square the two-Test series.Turning out for the Central, Waterside, Korodale and Randwick clubs, Wellington regular Westerby represented Southern Provinces against Great Britain in 1950.
