One of New Zealand's great wingers, Marist and Auckland flyer Brian Reidy made four overseas and scored eight tries in 19 Tests for the Kiwis between 1959 and 1966.

Initially a fullback, the 20-year-old played eight minor tour matches for New Zealand in Australia in 1959 - all in the custodian role. His maiden Test call-up come as a winger, however, featuring in both matches of the drawn 1961 series against Australia on home soil.

Reidy scored 14 tries in 21 games on the 1961 tour of Britain and France - including hat-tricks against Halifax-Huddersfield and Basque XIII - and played in all six Tests. He scored tries in the series-opening victory over Great Britain and the second Test win against France.

The slightly built speedster enjoyed a wonderful 1962 series against the Lions, scoring two tries in the first Test and dotting down once in the second as New Zealand carved out a 2-0 triumph. The following season, he played in all three Tests in Australia and raced over for a hat-trick in the 16-13 win at Lang Park - the Kiwis' only win in that series. He also scored doubles in the space of three days in wins over Riverina and Newcastle.

Reidy played in New Zealand's loss to South Africa in 1963 but missed the 1964 series against France with a hamstring injury and was again ruled out by injury against Australia in 1965. But he returned for the Kiwis' 1965 tour of Britain and France, scoring six tries in his first seven appearances. He lined up in all three Tests against Great Britain and the series opener in France, his last appearance on tour.

The 27-year-old's Kiwis swansong came in the 1966 home series against Great Britain - a 2-0 defeat - on the wing in the first Test and at fullback in the second. He finished with 33 tries in 63 games for New Zealand.

A prominent administrator and servant of the game, Reidy was made a NZRL life member in 2015.
