Richmond Rovers halfback Roy Powell played four Test matches against the touring Australian and English teams in 1935-36.
Powell debuted for Auckland in 1934 and represented his province against Australia the following season before getting the call-up from the New Zealand selectors. The 28-year-old played in the first two Tests - a 22-14 win and a 29-8 loss - before being replaced by clubmate Eric Fletcher for the decider.
Strong club form saw strong-tackling Powell chosen at halfback again for both Tests of the 1936 series against England, which garnered 10-8 and 23-11 defeats.
Powell also represented Auckland against both touring teams.
