Newton Rangers halfback Clarrie Polson represented New Zealand in two Test series against England and toured Australia with the national side during the first half of the 1920s.

The Ponsonby rugby union player represented Auckland in 1919 before switching codes with Newton and making an immediate impression.

The 20-year-old was at halfback for Auckland's 24-16 win over Auckland in 1920, then came into the New Zealand team for the second and third Tests.

The following season, Polson played six games on New Zealand's tour of Australia (no Tests were played).

Polson represented Auckland against New Zealand Mฤori, Universities XIII (Sydney) and NSW in 1922.

In a repeat of 1920, he missed the 1924 opener against England but came in at halfback for the remaining two Tests - a series-sealing 13-11 win at the Basin Reserve and a 31-18 loss in the Dunedin dead-rubber decider.
