Auckland centre/winger Lester Mills starred for New Zealand on the 1967 tour of Australia.
On the flank for Auckland's loss to the 1966 Great Britain tourists, Mills received a Kiwis call-up the following season - his first for Te Atatu after moving from Mt Albert - and top-scored for the squad in Australia with eight tries in seven matches.
Mills crossed on debut against Riverina and bagged four tries against Far North Queensland, earning a promotion to the Test line-up for the third Test. He partnered captain Roger Bailey in the centres, opposite the Australian combination of Reg Gasnier and John McDonald, in a 13-9 defeat at the SCG.
That would be Mills' last appearance for New Zealand. The ARL club stalwart later switched to Northcote in 1973.
