Waikato second-rower George McDonald represented the Kiwis at a World Cup, in a home series against France and on a tour of Britain and France during the mid-1950s.
A South Auckland rep against the 1954 Lions, McDonald was selected in New Zealand's World Cup squad later that year and debuted in a 26-6 loss to Great Britain at Bordeaux. He played in two exhibition matches against Australia after the tournament, in Leigh and Los Angeles.
McDonald then played both Tests of the drawn 1955 series against France on home soil and embarked on the Kiwis' tour of Britain and France at the end of the season. His 22 appearances included all three Tests against Great Britain in a 2-1 series loss.
He played his club football for Albion in Hamilton.
