Long-serving Sydney Roosters centre/winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall's 21-Test tenure for New Zealand from 2007-16 included prominent roles in some of the nation's greatest wins of the modern era.

Brisbane-born Kenny-Dowall moved to Auckland as a three-year-old - turning out at junior level for East Coast Bays - and later relocated to Ngāruawāhia, playing for Turangawaewae and the Ngaruawahia Panthers.

Shifting back across the Tasman with Sydney Roosters, Kenny-Dowall played in feeder club Newtown's Premier League grand final loss and represented Junior Kiwis in 2006. By the end of the following year, the 19-year-old had scored eight tries in 14 rookie-season NRL appearances for the Roosters, played in the All Golds' exhibition match against Northern Union and made a tryscoring debut for New Zealand on the wing against France in Paris.

Competition for outside-back spots prevented Kenny-Dowall from adding to his Kiwis tally over the next two seasons, but he scored 15 tries in 19 games in 2008 and 14 tries in 24 games in 2009 for the Roosters.

The tall, elusive three-quarter enjoyed a phenomenal 2010 season. 'SKD' scored 21 tries for a Roosters side that reached the grand final - the most by any player for the club in 34 years - including an unforgettable long-range intercept try to sink Wests Tigers in golden point during the finals.

Snaring a centre spot for the Kiwis at the end of the year, he scored two tries in a warm-up Test against Samoa, and crossed again in the Four Nations round-robin win against England and loss to Australia. Kenny-Dowall then scored a key first-half try and played a huge part in the last-gasp match-winning try as the Kiwis stunned the Kangaroos 16-12 in the Suncorp Stadium final.

The 22-year-old was subsequently named RLIF Centre of the Year.

Kenny-Dowall played in the 2011 Anzac Test, both matches against Australia in an abbreviated 2012 schedule and the 2013 Anzac Test. He was one of the heroes of the Roosters' grand final triumph later that year, scoring a vital second-half try in the comeback win over Manly despite breaking his jaw in the early stages of the match - an injury that would rule him out of the Kiwis' World Cup campaign.

After extending his run of consecutive matches for the Roosters to 65, Kenny-Dowall returned to the New Zealand for the 2014 Four Nations. He played all four matches of a successful campaign that included two victories over Australia, while he scored the late match-winner in a tense 14-12 win over Samoa in Whangarei.

Kenny-Dowall starred in the historic 26-12 Anzac Test win over the Kangaroos in Brisbane in 2015, scoring a memorable try. He crossed for 17 tries for the Roosters in just 20 games - including a hat-trick in a semi-final win over Canterbury - to pass 100 touchdowns for the club.

Switched to the wing for the 2015 Test series in England, he scored the only try of the 9-2 second-Test win in London.

Kenny-Dowall reverted to centre for the 2016 Anzac Test and Four Nations round-robin matches against England and Australia, and the final against the Kangaroos - which would prove his international swansong.

The 29-year-old had his Roosters contract terminated for an off-field indiscretion midway through 2017, having played 224 games (seventh in Roosters history at the time) and scored 121 tries (second) for the club. Kenny-Dowall finished the season playing for Newcastle and missed just one game for the Knights across the 2018-19 seasons.

Finishing his 17-year professional career in England, Kenny-Dowall played 93 games for Hull KR - including a Challenge Cup final appearance in 2023.
