Big Auckland prop Joffre Johnson toured overseas twice with the Kiwis in the late-1940s.
The Ōtāhuhu forward represented Auckland twice against the touring England side in 1946, before winning selection in the New Zealand squad for the 1947-48 tour of Britain and France.
Johnson turned 30 the day before making his Test debut in a 28-20 win over Wales. He subsequently featured in the second Test against England at Station Road (a 10-7 win) and in the decider at Odsal (a 25-9 loss), as well as the 25-7 defeat to France in the second Test in Bordeaux among 19 total appearances.
Part of the Kiwis' squad to tour Australia in 1948, Johnson lined up against NSW, Northern Division, Central Queensland and Newcastle but was not chosen for the Tests.
