Winger Shane Horo represented New Zealand from Waikato and Auckland, touring overseas twice with the Kiwis and playing three Test matches.
The Hamilton City Tigers flyer represented Northern Districts against Queensland Country and Great Britain in 1984, and - playing alongside younger brother and future Kiwi Mark - Australia in 1985, scoring a try.
Horo received a late call-up for the Kiwis' 1985 tour of Britain and France, replacing Canterbury's Marty Crequer, who pulled out after breaking his jaw. The 25-year-old scored seven tries in nine minor tour matches - including one on debut against Great Britain Under-21s.
Moving to Auckland, Horo played for Te Atatu in 1986 and Northcote in 1987. In the latter season he made his Test debut in a 36-22 win over Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby, but he was bumped out of a reshuffled backline for the one-off upset of Australia when Darrell Williams returned.
In 1988, Horo scored three tries in the Kiwis' 66-14 thrashing of the Kumuls at Carlaw Park and held his place for the 12-10 defeat of Great Britain in Christchurch that put New Zealand into the World Cup final (Tony Iro and Mark Elia came in on the wings for the tournament decider against Australia).
Horo spent a British winter with each of Leigh, Castleford and Whitehaven between 1987 and 1991, scoring 35 tries in 63 games.
