Waikato halfback Graeme Farrar played only three Tests for New Zealand, but he holds the distinction of captaining the Kiwis in a series against Great Britain.
The Huntly South linchpin represented Waikato against France in 1960 and made a tryscoring Test debut against Australia as New Zealand won the 1961 series opener at Carlaw Park 12-10. He was picked after a strong show in the National Coaching School's hard-fought loss to Australia, but injury forced him out of the second Test.
Farrar toured Britain and France with the Kiwis later that year but was restricted to 11 minor appearances, with Bill Snowden occupying the halfback spot in all six Tests.
He scored a try for Waikato against Great Britain in 1962 and represented his province against France in 1964, but another national call-up did not arrive until 1966.
It was a selection to savour, however. With Snowden unavailable due to injury, Farrar was recalled at halfback for the series against Great Britain - and installed as captain, having led North Island on a short tour of Australia earlier in the year. The Lions won the two Tests 25-8 and 22-14.
Farrar continued to represent Waikato until 1971.
