Ellerslie stalwart and Auckland back-rower Murray Eade played 16 Tests as one of the Kiwis' most dependable players of the 1970s.
After scoring a try in New Zealand XIII's loss and two tries in Auckland's win against the 1971 Australian tourists, Eade was chosen to tour Britain and France with the Kiwis at the end of the year. He made one Test appearance - off the bench in the third encounter with Great Britain - on the 'Grand Slam' tour.
Eade became a first-choice forward for the Kiwis in 1972, playing in both Tests on the tour of Australia - scoring a try in the latter - and all three matches at the World Cup, where he dotted down in a heavy loss to Great Britain.
He was New Zealand's loose forward throughout the 1974 Test series against the Lions and was vice-captain for the 1975 World Championship Series, playing in six matches. The 27-year-old scored a try in the 27-0 win over France in Christchurch.
Eade was recalled by the Kiwis selectors for the 1978 tour of Australia and Papua New Guinea. He was superb in the early matches but was not sighted again after playing in the first Test loss to Australia, sidelined by dislocated forearm.
