Ponsonby and Auckland mainstay Frank Delgrosso's eight-year tenure in the New Zealand team included three overseas tours and nine Tests at five-eighth, wing and halfback.

Delgrosso debuted for Auckland in 1919 and earned his first New Zealand call-up for the 1921 tour of Australia. He predominantly played fullback in his seven appearances (no Tests were scheduled).

Fullback for Auckland against Australian Universities and NSW in 1922, he returned to the New Zealand side for the 1924 home series against England. He came off the bench for injured centre Charles Fitzgerald in the first Test win and kicked two goals, before lining up at stand-off for the remaining two matches - scoring a try in the third.

'Delly' toured Australia again in 1925, scoring five tries in nine games as a wing/centre, and kicked nine goals in two matches for New Zealand at home against Queensland later that year.

His versatility came to the fore on the troubled 1926-27 tour of Britain, predominantly playing at halfback or five-eighth after a few starts in the three-quarter line early in the tour (including on the wing in the series opener against England). He played in all four Tests, scoring a try and a goal in the 34-8 loss to Wales, and dotting down in the third Test against England.

Delgrosso was selected at halfback for the 1928 home series against England, kicking three goals in New Zealand's 17-13 win in the Carlaw Park opener. But he was stretchered off during the fiery second Test in Dunedin, which was to be his last international appearance.

He last represented Auckland in 1929 and continued playing for Ponsonby until 1933, while he coached Ponsonby, Auckland and Taranaki.
