Dave Mason biography

Nelson rugby league pioneer Dave Mason toured Australia with the New Zealand side of 1911.From the St Mary's club, Mason (also known by his Mฤori name, Rawiri Meihana) made his debut for New Zealand in a pre-tour match against Auckland and scored a try.The robust forward played four matches in Australia, in a loss to a NSW line-up boasting some of the luminaries of the era, a win over Newcastle in which he bagged a try and two goals, and in two victories over Queensland, dotting down again in the first.Mason was a regular for the Nelson representative side from 1911-13, including against the touring NSW team in 1913.
