Originally from the Parnell club, Clark joined City in 1929 and debuted for his province the following season before earning a spot in the Kiwis' squad.

Clark played eight matches in Australia (no Tests were scheduled) and scored tries in the last two fixtures, wins over Newcastle and Universities XIII.

The 24-year-old turned out for Auckland against England in 1932 before replacing Bob Stephenson in the New Zealand front-row for the third Test, a 20-18 loss at Carlaw Park.

Clark continued to represent Auckland and North Island until 1934.
