Classy Ōtāhuhu centre/five-eighth Dean Clark played seven Tests for the Kiwis between 1989 and 1992.

Clark joined Eastern Suburbs Roosters in 1988 as part of the NZRL's rookie scheme - playing seven first-grade matches - before breaking into the Auckland team the following season and earning a spot on New Zealand's tour of Britain and France.

The 21-year-old made his Test debut off the bench in 10-6 loss to Great Britain in the second clash at Wigan, then lined up at five-eighth in a 34-0 victory over France in tour-closing encounter at Carcassonne.

Clark partnered Gary Freeman in the halves in narrow losses in the first two Tests of the home series against Great Britain but was replaced in the No.6 jersey by Tony Kemp for the third match.

He missed out on the Kiwis' eventful 1991 scheduled before spending the off-season in England with Scarborough and Hull KR, then returned to the black-and-white jersey in 1992.

Clark scored two tries in the 66-10 demolition of Papua New Guinea at Mount Smart Stadium and remained at five-eighth for both Tests of the drawn home series against Great Britain, which would prove his last international appearance.

The New Zealand Māori regular spent the next two English season with Hull KR, spent the 1996 Super League season with Leeds Rhinos after two Lion Red Cup campaigns with Counties Manukau Heroes, joined Mangere East Hawks in the ARL competition and returned to Ōtāhuhu Leopards, who he led to the 2000 Bartercard Cup final as player-coach.

Clark had subsequent coaching stints with Tamaki Titans in the Bartercard Cup, New Zealand Māori and Papakura Sea Eagles.
