The older brother of 1937-38 New Zealand representative Rangi Chase, versatile back Tom Chase was selected for the ill-fated Kiwis tour of Britain in 1939.

Like Rangi, Tom was a Whanganui rugby union representative, while he also won selection for New Zealand Māori's 1935 tour of Australia. He switched to rugby league with Manukau in 1937 along with his brother.

Tom was at five-eighth and Rangi in the centres for New Zealand Māori's memorable 16-5 win over Australia in 1937. He played fullback for Manukau against Sydney club Eastern Suburbs in 1938.

The following season, Chase ventured to Britain with the Kiwis and debuted on the wing in a 22-10 win over Dewsbury - the second of only two matches played before the tour was cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II.

Chase went on to play over 100 games for Manukau and continued to represent Auckland.
