Auckland winger Louie Brown's tenure in the New Zealand team spanned more than a decade (1925-36), including nine Test matches and two overseas tours - as well as playing nearly 300 club games in England.

Joining Newton Rangers in 1922, the 17-year-old debut for Auckland that year. He had a stint in Wigan's reserves team but became embroiled in a dispute after attempting to join City Rovers upon his return. Newton appealed and he was suspended, before being allowed to play for City in 1924.

Brown debuted for New Zealand on the 1925 tour of Australia, scoring five tries in nine games, and represented Auckland against the vaunted Queensland tourists later that year.

The 21-year-old was one of the strongest performers on the troubled 1926-27 tour of Britain, scoring 14 tries in 27 games and featuring in all three Tests against England and Wales.

Brown stayed on in England and scored over 100 games in three seasons with Wigan - including a Challenge Cup final victory at Wembley in 1929 - before enjoying equally prolific stints with Halifax and York, finishing with over 200 tries in total. He also played for Other Nationalities against England in 1930, scoring five tries in two matches.

Brown returned to Auckland in 1935 with City Rovers and made a triumphant comeback to the Test arena that year, crossing for three tries in New Zealand's series-opening victory over Australia. He played in the two subsequent losses to Australia and both Tests against visiting England in 1936. The veteran represented Auckland against both touring teams.
