Nine-Test Kiwi Bob Jarvis was part of Hornby's 1976 raid on the Auckland playing ranks and spent six seasons in the CRL competition, later joining Addington. The Otahuhu centre-cum-five-eighth made his debut for New Zealand off the bench in the third Test against the 1974 Lions at Carlaw Park. The following season he was at five-eighth for seven of the Kiwis' eight World Championship Series matches at home and abroad, scoring two tries in his maiden start - a 27-0 rout of France in Christchurch - and dotting down again in the 12-all draw with France at Marseille.Jarvis headed south to Hornby with fellow Auckland Kiwis Wayne Robertson and Murray Wright in 1976, and was one of three Canterbury-based players chosen in the New Zealand XIII's clash with Sydney Metropolitan that year.Head injuries dictated Jarvis played just once for Canterbury, but he played at Addington until a broken arm forced him to hang up the boots in during 1981 - the year the club lost the Grand Final to Eastern Suburbs.
