Newton Rangers winger Bill Cloke toured Australia with the New Zealand team in 1919.

Transferring from Ōtāhuhu in 1917, he scored four tries in six games for New Zealand – bookending a double in a losing effort against Queensland with tries in wins over Ipswich and Rockhampton.

Cloke also dotted down in Auckland’s 24-16 win over England in 1920. He later became secretary and chairman of the Newton club, and an Auckland selector.
