Long-serving Auckland hooker Les Beehre played in minor tour matches on the Kiwis’ European leg of the 1975 World Championships.

A Mt Wellington junior who featured in the club’s capture of the Roope Rooster in 1973 and the Fox Memorial Cup and Rukatai Shield in 1976, Beehre broke into the Auckland side for its successful domestic representative campaign in 1973.

Fellow Aucklander Tom Conroy was preferred at hooker for the four World Championship matches following Beehre’s New Zealand call-up for the second half of the tournament, but the 23-year-old nevertheless earned his Kiwi spurs as they chalked up wins over the likes of South West France, Barrow and Keighley.

Spending 1977 with Wagga Magpies in country NSW, Beehre would return to Auckland and represent the province in a 20-10 win over France at Carlaw Park in 1981.
