The Sky Sport National Women’s Premiership final saw the Counties Manukau Stingrays and Akarana Falcons clash for the title at Bruce Pulman Park last weekend.
Counties Manukau came out firing, scoring the opening try within the first 5 minutes. Quick thinking by the dummy half at the try line however saw Akarana fight back shortly after. The to and fro continued with another try from a chip and chase for Counties Manukau followed by an epic intercept and runaway try for Akarana to bring the score to 10-10 at half time.
The second half was a tussle for both teams who showed strong defence to hold each other out of their territory. However, a penalty against Counties Manukau saw Akarana break ahead with a successful penalty kick from in front of the posts. No tries were scored in the second half and Akarana took home the win.
This was a great result for the all-women coaching group behind the success of the Akarana Falcons this season.
