Waikato hooker Bob Stephenson toured Australia with the New Zealand side in 1930 and played two Tests against England on home soil two years later.

From the Huntly club, Stephenson represented Waikato against England in 1924, and South Auckland against Australian Universities in 1924 and England in 1924 and 1928.

After receiving his maiden national call-up in 1930, he played in 11 of New Zealand’s 13 matches in Australia (no Tests were played) and went up against champion hookers of the era such as Arhtur ‘Snowy’ Justice.

Stephenson played against the 1932 English tourists four times – and lost four times – for South Auckland, Presidents XIII and in the first two Test matches, where he was utilised as a prop.
