Ōtāhuhu winger/fullback Bob McGuinn played three Tests for the Kiwis during the early-1970s.

Injury stymied McGuinn’s bid for a New Zealand debut in 1969, but he toured Australia that year with the New Zealand Under-23s.

The following season, he was chosen in the Kiwis’ World Cup squad played his first Test on the flank in a 47-11 loss to Australia at Wigan.

After representing Auckland in its win over Australia in 1971, McGuinn went on the Kiwis’ ‘Grand Slam’ tour of Britain and France. Among 14 appearances on tour, he played on the wing in the 12-3 loss to Great Britain in the dead-rubber third Test and came off the bench in the series-opening victory over France.

McGuinn later moved to Otago, playing for the Celtic club and representing the province.
